A giant bouquet of chrysanthemums

These flowers were domesticated in ancient China, although it is unclear exactly when. The oldest documents in which they are mentioned date back to the 5th century BC, and the world-famous Chinese philosopher Confucius wrote about them. They arrived in Europe in 1689, but the seedlings died, and chrysanthemums that would have taken root could only be imported exactly 100 years after that moment.
