Cycas, or cycad, is an exotic palm—like plant that requires special care and can live up to 100 years. General Information Cycas (Latin Cycas) is a genus of gymnosperms in the Cycad family. It includes from 90 to 200 species and is distributed in tropical and subtropical regions such as Asia, Indonesia and Madagascar. Outwardly, the cicada resembles a palm tree, but in fact it does not belong to the palm family. This plant is an intermediate link between ferns and ginkgo.
